Wrap a cloth around a block of wood place it against the window frame at the bottom of one side and tap it gently with a hammer. Remove the motor from the regulator to check. Reduce friction on window and door jambs by running a candle stub or bar of soap on them. Starting at the sill drive the chisel along the side of the strip to pry it out. If your double hung windows are too loose they may rattle in the wind admit street noise and leak large volumes of air causing drafts and wasting your precious energy dollars. Unstick a stuck window.

Repair it to operate like it should. In this video i show how i deal with power window regulators that are stuck and will not move. Pull on them to see if they are still attached to the sash weights in their pockets. If a window won t stay open don t prop it up.

Try one or more of the following to keep windows and doors from sticking. In this case the window was stuck in the up position and would. The plastic stops snap into the frame to keep the window sash from rising too far inside the frame. Replace or repair any parts that are broken or stuck.

Break the seal all around the window sashes. When your window has stops grab them. Reinstall the door panel using the reverse process to how you removed the panel. Lubricate moving parts and window guides and clean the window glass.

If the panel is held in by a parting strip use the chisel to pry it from its groove. Remove the access panel in the sash channel to get to the counterweight. Go to the bottom of the other side of the window frame and do the same. Look along the top inside of the window frame for stops.

Too tight and you ll find them difficult or impossible to open and close. Clean the window track by vacuuming it with the brush attachment then using a toothbrush and hot soapy water to remove any remaining grime.
